FAQs

are you accepting new clients?

We are accepting new clients and enrolling clients for an adult DBT skills training group. Currently, we are doing all sessions online, through HIPPA compliant telehealth services. You must live in California to receive therapy.

how do I get started?

If you would like to inquire more or just get a sense of whether we would be a good fit, please contact us to schedule a free 10 minute phone consultation. You can connect with us by email (info@thecenteredselfpsychotherapy.com) or phone (323-412-0767) or click here.

During our assessment process, we will evaluate which therapist on staff would be the best fit for your needs. The person you speak with in regards to your admission may be different than your individual therapist.

is therapy confidential?

We prioritize your trust and the information that you share with us will be handled with great care.

In general, our sessions are completely confidential except under the following circumstances:

  • There is suspected abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult, which your provider is required by law to report to the appropriate authorities.

  • A client makes threats of serious bodily harm to another person(s), which we are required to report to police and inform the intended victim.

  • A client intends to harm themselves, in which case we will first attempt to collaborate on a plan to ensure safety. If a client is unwilling or unable to complete a safety plan, we may be required to notify authorities to seek hospitalization or to contact family members who can ensure the client’s protection.

  • If a court of law issues a subpoena, we may be required to disclose some information discussed in therapy.

how do I pay for therapy?

Typically, payments are due at the end of session, unless other arrangements have been made in advance. Payments can be made with cash, check, or credit card.

do you accept insurance?

No, we are out-of-network providers. However, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance provider. This does not guarantee reimbursement and we encourage you to check with your insurance provider to determine your mental health benefits for out-of-network providers.

How often do we meet and for how long?

Typically, individual sessions are 45 minutes long and occur weekly. We can discuss meeting more often or less often depending on your specific needs.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule our appointment?

We ask for all cancellations or rescheduling to be made at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session. If an appointment is missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, we will need to charge the full fee for the missed session, except in the event of an emergency.

What should I do if I'm in crisis?

In case of a medical or clinical emergency, including a threat to your safety or the safety of others, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
